Here's another ab exercise which is great for beginners.
Proper tension to be maintained throughout the movement. Lock out the legs and hips. Arch UP your lower back and pivot off the hips.

Sit up and get up as straight as you can, point your fingers to the ceiling and slowly return to the start position, briefly pausing 5 times on the way back.
