Canon 2X teleconverter with 60D and 70-200mm test

Is it worth getting a teleconverter? Non-scientific test of the Canon EF 2X II extender (teleconverter) on a Canon 60D with Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L IS lens. This lens is a Canon classic so in this test I have a quick look at what kind of image degradation we might experience if we add a teleconverter and are we gaining more image detail than without the extender.

Thats the idea if you can get closer to the object you want you may not need the teleconverter but most people cant but they still want a closer image that is reasonable in sharpness.

@yes350yes True! Wildlife springs to mind - you really don't want to get too close to a Grizzly Bear or African Lion.

LOL mm don't change on crop! that is really stupid to say that, because on 50mm at full frame and on crop you will have same distance! just on crop you see less on borders, but distance don't change! 70-200 on FF and on crop is still 70-200! when you will take 320mm on full frame this will not same distance as your 70-200 @ 200mm!

@adamziaja I agree - but the effective magnification of a particular lens on a cropped sensor becomes equivalent to a certain focal length on a full frame. Full frame is the benchmark and people have become accustomed to thinking of the Focal length as having a certain magnification factor. So when you talk about a 100mm lens on Full frame, photographers know that is 2x magnification. On a crop sensor the 100mm effectively shows 2x1.6= 3.2x magnification so its like a 160mm lens.

What aperture did you use on the images...
