This is the first in a series of videos providing my testimonial of beginning treatment with Vimpat.
This is technically the beginning of week 2, with my dosage being 100mg in the AM, and another 100mg in the PM. I am also taking 200mg of Tegretol 4X a day, making a total of 800mg every 24 hours.

As the treatment progresses, I will be weaning off of Tegretol a bit, which I will also document when it begins. For now, I am just allowing the Vimpat to do what it does.
(I began weaning too soon with Lamictal and ended up with 400mg daily of Tegretol without any buffers and a mess of seizures to contend with- no way I'm going to allow that to happen again!)

For any additional info, one could check out
http://www.vimpat.com/
for basics- or simply talk with your neuro. However, being that this is such a new med on the market, many may not have much available, or may not know much themselves.

If you know an epileptic with partial-onset seizures(this does not include grand mal/tonic clonics, but rather seizures that are localized into a specific region of the brain, please pass this link along.

  • I absolutely LOVE keppra!

I am a 16 year old girl from Norway, and I started using Lamictal when I first got my seizures in october 09. These didn't work for me, then I started Keppra. I'm on 500x2, and they work perfectly, never experienced double vision, or any other side affects that you discussed, happy with that!

Thank you for making this video, it could help may people suffering from epilepsy! I hope you find the right doze for you, without suffering your lever OR from seizures :)

  • @celeron0823 Thank you very much! I wish Keppra had been the answer for me, now I am without insurance and stuck on Tegretol which doesn't give me side effects, but doesn't completely control my seizures, either. Gotta love the human brain, right?

  • Thank you for doing this! I´m an epileptic woman from Sweden searching everywhere for some info on this drug. I was supposed to start in december but... lot´s of "other stuff" happening in that month I hope that my pharmacy will be able to order some soon.

My major issue when taking these drugs have been depression, I can (almost) live with the lack of memory, the tremors and the dubble vision but no more dangerous depression for me!

(I also take Trileptal and Fenantoin)

  • I agree w/ the depression! Keprra was the worst! Tegretol has been great as far as side effects- little to none- but everything else has been a nightmare. Too bad Tegretol doesn't fully control my seizures.

I know I had some weird issues with Vimpat, and recently heard from a woman who had an awful reaction involving her heart. However, I've also heard it's been great for others. Weird how these medicines work like that.

Whatever they put on me on next, I'll make another series on it. :)

  • I am gonna keep you in my thoughts and hope this works well for you. It sucks so bad to keep moving on to meds that either the side effects suck (such as death) I struggle with mine. I am lucky I have Medicaid. I have to take 28 meds a day for different problems. This also includes over the counter meds. They say the cost of living has not increased and I wonder what happy little world they live in. That's ridiculous for a medication.

  • I'm on a state-assisted insurance program, too- otherwise there is no way in hell I'd be able to afford this stuff. And, yes, it is ridiculous. That medication costs $120 more than my rent!!!

  • Tegretol worked fantastic for about 17 years, great seizure, only side effects were double vision, but only when my levels were high. Now I am on Lamictal. No major side effects but confusion, and occassionally out of it. Now I need an add on seizure drug--it will either be Keppra or Neurontin. Neuorlogist seems to prefer Keppra, but I am scared of the Keppra Rage.

But maybe the Klonopin and perhaps B6 will help with that

  • @choirgrrl yeah, the brain is a complicated organ... I'm so happy with the fact that I am living in Norway, where medications are free :D

  • Ok. I see I´ve been way to busy just sticking my head up my ass, this one, reaction involving the womans heart, can you say anything more?

My aunt just had a tripple by pass, my mother has had 2 pacemaker-surgerys and now been told she has heartfailure and both my grandmother and grandfather had some heartissues.... My heart is very "jumpy" or what I should call it, no anxietyproblems, I´m the calm type, but something is different, since my doc never says anything I would like to hear more

  • I'm into remeron 45mg. and take several tranqullizers including alprazolam and delorazepam (which is strictly italian drug). I do not want mood stabilizers. theyre the shit. only a better antidepressive than this one.

  • i'm so sorry hear your hands shook so bad i'm as well as the other side effects that have effected you i will be updating my blog soon btw thanks

  • too bad you don't live up here, the meds are basically free with an average medical plan.

    good luck with these

    indeed
