What started out as a normal day of nestorations on the Pelican Harbor bald eagle nest on Santa Cruz Island, turned into a screaming match that lasted nearly an hour with K10 & K26 defending their nest from ??? We never see an intruder, but can hear one several times in the video. K10 does an amazing eagle-dance in defense of the nest several times. Later in the day, K26 lays her first egg in the nest. You can see that video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s0h4Yz0UwY
These eagles are part of the ongoing restoration project by IWS. You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to http://www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the 4 nests to view.... 3 are on Catalina Island and 1 on Santa Cruz Island or go to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/index.php?act=idx
Eagles, like most wildlife, must always be on alert for predators and competitors! We witnessed the Sidney, BC, nest under attack in 2007 (Nest under attack, on my YT site). Thanks for posting this video, which is an excellent illustration of how vigilant eagles must be to protect their nests!
