@armyrangersgirl You're right. I'm a little too old school...it used to be RIP. But actually, only enlisted personnel will have the option of going through RASP before Ranger School. Officers go through Ranger school, and then go through RASP (as do senior noncoms). See, Ranger School is the Army's Premiere Leadership School. Many people go through the School but have no desire for special forces. Most of these are officers. If they like it, they continue the process with RASP. :D

@TheDeltaDawg My husband is a Ranger with 3rd Bat 75th Ranger Reg. You actually go to RASP now not RIP than are assigned to 1 of the 3 Bats. Then you wait to be selected for Ranger school. It's true you have to be airborne qualified. My husband was selected about 6 weeks after RASP

@Fals3Pretense True, true, I had outdated info. It is called RASP now. However, most people have already gone through Ranger School before RASP. Only lower enlisted ranks will go through RASP before RS. Senior NCO's and officers will have their Jump Wings, go through Ranger School, and APPLY to go to RASP. If they're selected, and pass RASP, they're put in the 75th IR.

@KKKkillerful That's not true. In fact, the Rangers constitute only one regiment of infantry in the US Army. The Infantry as a whole is the largest branch of the Army...maybe that's what you were thinking. ;)
To go to Ranger School, you must first enlist/be commissioned into the U.S. Army Infantry. Next, you must go to Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia. To be eligible for Ranger School, it is almost essential to be a non-commissioned officer or officer. Once through Ranger School, you must go through the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) and be selected to be in the 75th Infantry Regiment (Ranger Regiment).
Thumbs up so people can see :D

@TheDeltaDawg wrong, it is not RIP anymore it is RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) you go to that directly after Airborne, if you make it through then you go to a Ranger unit and wait until higher ups say you should go to Ranger School, if you are in the top 10% of your RASP class you go right to Ranger school though.
