The Philip Glass Ensemble directed by Michael Riesman joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Master Chorale to perform a new orchestral version of Glass' Koyaanisqatsi at the Hollywood Bowl on July 23, 2009. Glass who opened the evening on solo piano with his Opening, said performing at The Bowl was a life long dream. This was the first time Koyaanisqatsi was performed by symphony orchestra and chorus. The stage was surrounding by screens that projected the 1982 Godfrey Reggio film Koyaanisqatsi to which Glass's work is the soundtrack. Reid Bruton was the bass soloist.

  • A shameless plug: If you need a low bass... contact me. I'm the guy whose voice gave you "nightmares". I sing with the Master Chorale, with LA Opera and on major motion picture soundtracks.

    Reid Bruton.

    ps. Thanks for posting this!

  • @silverstartrucker - I do apologise. My son had been using my youtube page and reduced the volume. Please delete my comment...sorry.

  • @silverstartrucker ......it's a pocket digital camera....was it really necessary to post this comment? Actually I think it is pretty amazing how good it sounds for a 100 dollar camera. oh and you are welcome...

  • I saw this at the Sydney Opera House, drove the 1000km from Melbourne and drove back the next day. We only got the 9 piece ensemble version. I was in LA 2008 & 2010, had I have known it was at the Bowl in 2009....

  • I love this song. I wonder if anyone has ever ripped it off for a doom metal intro.. :)
