Well at first they did not instruct anyone not to believe it, infact nobody had the chance to, they put the man who came up with the idea in jail ( the jails at that time were very very scary :P )
So they tried to stop the information but they failed and later on had to accept that the earth isnt flat.

its not hard to see how the sun is moving in the sky, but if u want a more accurate account of how it will always move ill give it to you..
in a circle so large that you die before it even comes close to doing it once.
The sun does not move over the sky, its the earth that is rotating.
No god is needed to see what way the sun will go on the sky..
Its childishly easy, cant believe that he is taking credit for this haha

@JollSSteR The point Thomas E. Woods is attempting to make is that, to quote him directly, "Everyone already knew the Earth revolved around the sun." His point is that the Catholic church was not instructing individuals to believe otherwise.
