This has always been a favorite film of mine and has been quite influential. I was about Sammy's age when I first saw it and wanted to go to Africa and shoot a leopard as he did. My dream was realized a few years ago. I took my 10 year old on my last African trip. It was released in the US as A Boy Ten Feet Tall and, though I've got it on four VHS and DVD versions, I've not heard this music. Was it composed as a soundtrack or was it an afterthought? Any other fans around?

I saw this as a child one afternoon on a battered old B&W television and never forgot it, for me he was the most badass kid I had ever seen. The vision of Sammy in his Khakis, folded up map in his breast pocket casually telling the non believing adults around him what he was up to was forever burned in my brain.

Thank you. When this movie was shown in Japan, I was a little boy and whole school went to see this film. The melody of "Sammy's going South" has been kept singing in my mind for the last 40 years. Thanks to the technology. My memory came back to me and I feel great.

Great clip. I always wanted to hear this song, but it was only released as a single in Japan. Just for the record, Sammy Going South is supposed to be released on DVD in the U.K. Feb. 15, 2010 by Optimum Home Entertaiment.

Try looking on ebay. It's listed from time to time under the title it was released under in the U.S. which was "A Boy Ten Feet Tall."

My husband saw this film when he was a little boy the u.k. version and I would like to buy it. Does anyone know where. I would dearly like to surprise him .
