@integralmath You're right, they're not all equal but everyone, no matter who they are, has their limits. When people started calling AN a 'cult,' I had had enough. Cult? I'm willing to wager that the majority of the people who are calling this a cult have ZERO idea of what a cult actually is, and what it's like being in one. To call any position outside the mainstream a cult is being disingenuous to the max. And intellectually lazy.

@TheRecoveringZombie not all criticism is of equal caliber or merit, but it is nevertheless to be expected, particularly on issues that only a few people accept. That is 'cult-like' to the extent that people wrong associate small, or little known as being defining and necessary features of a cult. The Catholic church is as much a cult as the Westboro Baptist Church as is Islam or Protestantism. A cult is religious system, despite how narrowly and disdainfully it is almost universally used.

@integralmath I get criticism all the time. I've made videos talking about reproductive rights & have had people PM with stupid arguments, I make videos against the cult I was raised in & get swarmed with current members telling me how I'm going to die, etc. I am not some delicate flower nor am I unwilling to hear criticism. Christ.

'Cult' is not an authentic criticism (& triggering to me) but it is one that is currently being bandied about a lot so I bowed out.

@TheRecoveringZombie what is more is that independently of your suggestion, I do engage other antinatalists. I do not credit many, if indeed any, of them with even attempting to discuss the topic in good faith. I approached you specifically because you appear to value honest discussion. I am not in the habit making so plain that which is already patent, but, I am not other people, and I am not responsible for what they say and do. I am not dirtied by intellectually disreputable 'others' here.

@TheRecoveringZombie well, that's your prerogative, of course. That I do not find the issue pressing isn't to say that it's not without a certain curiosity. I am by no means arguing that you obliged to participate in any discussion; however, if one is unable to hear honest criticism for fear of emotional 'triggering', then perhaps one is better served by avoiding the conversation altogether. Speaking publicly on a subject makes one a candidate to be taken to task - like it or not.

I had actually made notes for the video then just said 'fuck it.' The topic had already been misrepresented at that time (not by you) and pointless to continue.

@TheRecoveringZombie I mentioned you, specifically, in your comment section because you averred that in the fullness of time you'd planned on making a response to me. I do not think this is an important issue, but I do think one working to keep to what one has said one will do, or in the alternative that one should tell another when one isn't going to as a measure of courtesy. I have been at pains to be overly polite in a way that I am ordinarily not. I'm not a dick, but nor am I warm and fuzzy

@TheRecoveringZombie to be more clear, in case I wasn't originally: I am not saying you stated I called it either a religion or a cult. I am saying that you immediately juxtaposed my name with the claim that some people were - hence my name being 'closely linked'. In that, namely, 'integralmath' followed by 'i'm bowing out' followed by 'because of ___'. If anyone read what I wrote to mean I am saying you explicitly made that claim, then that's my bad for being unclear.

With all of that said, would you please stop looking for strawmen where none exist? I did not say YOU said it was a cult, only that the word was getting associated with a cult.

If wanting to debate with people over this is so important to you, there are other ANs on Youtube willing to.

Perhaps you thought I'm an easy target. I don't know.
