  • Just a question, Because I came across your video as I am in the hunt for a much cheaper way to fill my soda stream bottle with regular CO2... From what I have found from allot of research is that the really is no such thing as beverage grade CO2. This really understood this when I was thinking about it and the bottle is always vertical and the gas goes out of the top, well gas is gas and the impurities that might have been in the CO2 stay in the liquid sodastream seems very high cost.

  • @Luckieme23 There is absolutely a beverage grade CO2. There are in fact 5 different grades; the higher the grade the fewer impurities are in the CO2. Benzene (yes BENZENE), ammonia, phosphine, sulfur, and acetaldehyde to name but a few impurities that are in lower grades.

So would I use CO2 intended for industrial purposes for food/beverage consumption? No way! Just because it's gas does not mean it is pure or clean.

  • you know that fish need OXYGEN, not carbon dioxide (CO2) right?

  • @sneadrecords Yes thank you, fully aware. CO2 is added for plants benefit as they need carbon in order to build plant structure and flourish. Carbon does not occur naturally in the water so it needs to be supplemented artificially by injecting CO2. The plants absorb that CO2 and give out Oxygen, i.e. through photosynthesis. So long as you have adequate planting in the tank, the Oxygen that the plants produce is more than enough to sustain Oxygen levels for the fish.
