A rehearsal from BBC Studio N, Manchester for an insert into Nationwide on 1st May 1981 that I recorded on that day whilst working there. The subject was a boy who grew worms for fishing - a typical Nationwide item :)
Studio N at that time was the north west region's BBC News studio and items from here into Nationwide were common.
The audio is the female director in Studio N, i.e. prod.talkback. The man in the hot seat is Gerry Clarke, Floor Manager, and the cameraman with the hair, holding the worm, Keith Swadkins who moved from BBC Television Centre, London to Manchester in the 70s. The operator liking the colour of the cyclorama is Sound Supervisor Nigel Winchcombe. Ron Latham was the TM (Technical Manager) - the guy in charge of the lighting, the colour of the cyc and indeed in charge of the whole studio, a great guy. The cameras are EMI 2001.
The rehearsal was just for camera positions and lighting, and the boy would eventually be interviewed live from the Nationwide studio in London down the line that evening. The Nationwide studio was Studio E, Lime Grove, London. Then the cameras would be cut up locally as needed.
@Maundervision Actually she says 'bungaloid', meaning bungle.... A Nationwide bungle :)
