The recent financial meltdown may mean the issue of most concern to Americans is the economy but the war in Iraq is bound to still be on voters' minds come election day on November 4.

In the latest Inside Iraq we examine the positions of the two presidential candidates in the run-up to the vote.

How might the new president Obama or president McCain extricate America from the costly and divisive occupation of Iraq?

Our guests this week are Larry Korb, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and John Nagl, a senior fellow at the Centre for a New American Security.

  • The media lied to the ppl, they were purposely mis-informed, half the ppl in america couldn't even show you Iraq on a map before 911. This occupation is now known to have been planned long before "w" stole his way back into the white house. The issue now is, will the ppl still support americas role as the policeman of the world who pretend to bring "democracy" to others when they don't even have one at home? (Bomb ppl into freedom?) The Bush NeoCons lied over 900 times, lied thru their teeth!

  • Where the hell were all these moderates when Bush and the neocons were pushing for this war??

It's startling how many people who before were pushing for pre emptive war are now much more moderate and cautious, maybe if these people spoke up after 9/11, we wouldn't have gone to war.

  • damn your right, but thhe thing is its all happened and we cant do anything, lets just hope for the better in future eh?

  • Actually, the surge didn't really 'work' in the way US politicians claimed, it was increased US military force that stablized Iraq, it was the huge expenditure of Bribes to Sunni Militias that calmed things down, a temporary solution at best.

  • Petraus Betrayed Us

  • General Petraus showed he was a brilliant general during his assignment to the Iraq battlefield.

Since he left, things seem to be changing for the worse again.

Any bad news there may affect the US election if the bad news can be slanted to swing marginal key votes to capture critical states. :)

  • to hell with your election and demonic country

  • Such sensational crap, you really to need to calm down and educate yourself a little. Things aren't so simple. Yes, Jewish Americans are generally a very successful demographic, and have good access to Washington. Yes, Israel gets a lot of sweet treatment by Washington. But, one thing, far more than tribal allegiances, underpins the relationship, and it is oil. Israel represents a forward base in this critical region.

  • The Zionist lobby that has strong control over Washington will not allow any president to stop killing Muslims, NEVER NEVER NEVER

Anything to make IZRAEL stronger and others weaker. ANYTHING !!!!
