Dude I need your help. I too have three baby finches waiting to fledge but do they need a soft landing space outside because the nest is in the corner and highest point of the nest. The baby finches are big now and very feathery. Loud too but I dont want to scare the parents from taking care of them by adding something. What do I do?
@orphic1 - Are they zebra finches? The baby finches will be able to fly somewhat when they leave the nest. They'll be clumsy at first, but they can manage. If you want, you can quietly add a perch below the nest for them to land on, but it's not critical. It shouldn't upset the parents. Just don't move the nest itself around. If you need more help, just do a search for Finch Forum, there's a whole chat board with lots of helpful folks, many of whom are more knowledgeable than I am. :-)
Theyre so cuuute. <3 I was wondering, is it true that you have to remove the babies and put them in another cage once they've learned to eat by themselves?
@CrazyPocky355 Normally yes, because the parents will want them to "move along" so they can start another clutch of babies (if you let them). They want the youngsters out of the way, and may start plucking them.
Hi where did you buy the parent finches and what did you do to the babies after they all grew up? And one more question is it okay to breed brother and sister finches? Thanks
@335456364 Hi, I bought the parent finches from a local bird store. Petco and Petsmart have them sometimes, too. I kept one of the babies, and gave the rest away. Brother and sister birds should not be allowed to breed, because the babies could have problems such as genetic defects or physical deformities.
