華人朋友兔年流行養兔子,熱潮過後卻爆發棄兔潮,現在洛杉磯地區兔滿為患的動物救援機構為此煩惱不已...
This year is the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, and the Year of Rabbit thing might have just taken on a whole new meaning—since the Chinese New Year celebration in early February, more former pet bunnies has been finding shelter on the streets. Some believe these rabbits were dumped by Chinese people after buying the fuzzy animals from pet shops as a way to usher in the lunar new year.
No one knows if the theory is checked out, but many bunny rescue organizations have been watching for an increase in rabbit drop offs this year. They are very concerned because many of them, like Bunny Bunch located in Montclair, is packed with abandoned rabbits and lack of donation. Many volunteers, like the president of LA Rabbits Foundation who resides in Venice, even brings abandoned bunnies home to take care of them...

  • Thank you to To-Wen and Channel 18 for airing this important issue! We get abandonment calls all the time. People find stray rabbits and want us to take them in... we can't, the Inn is Full. Please always adopt a bunny AFTER doing research on rabbit care. Los Angeles Rabbit Foundation is a good place to start...

  • @Lagomosker I wish we have done this story BEFORE the year of the rabbit to prevent this from happening...I just didn't know anything about that...thank you Michelle for discussing this issue with us! I learned a lot from covering this.

  • Oh I meant thank Michelle and Caroline. Thx!!

  • A great segment with LA's two most respected rabbit people. Nicely done!

  • This is great! Thank you to Bunny Bunch in Montclair California and to Channel 18 for doing this story on the rabbits and the crisis that is happening. To many rabbits suffer. They cannot live out in the elements safely. Please spay and neuter your rabbit and learn all you can before adopting. Rabbit rescues are a great place to start for a ton of info. Plus the opportunity to volunteer is their too. Check out the Bunny Bunch. Love it!!

  • @losangelesrabbits Thx...I also think the Chinese community here in SoCal needs some Chinese resource to help them understand the issue b/c many of them don't even speak English. It's nice that you have interpreter there.
