Hötensleben is a small town around 15km to the south of Helmstedt just inside the border of Middle Saxony. No trouble getting there today but before 19 November 1989 it was much more difficult.
This was a border town but not a border crossing and the remains of the wall that divided Germany for more than forty years can clearly be seen here.
This is the first part of a film I made on 1 May 2008.

  • I've found your other films on the subject very interesting!

I went via Marienborn on the way to Weimar in 1991. Must try and get round to doing another trip to see how it all looks now.

  • Marienborn has been preserved well - other places not so much!

  • I must say, I'm surprised how much of the border has been preserved here. You'd have thought the residents would have been glad to see the back of it. Fascinating film, thanks!

  • I think some of it here has been repaired or replaced! The land is public and not private which would have saved some of it.

I have more films on this subject if it interests you!
