Umbrella Babies

Two months into my six month stay in an orphanage in Thailand.

Of all the things I have learned here so far, probably the most important one is that, without the various charities and volunteers out here to help them, these kids would be God-knows-where. People can throw money at cute orphans on TV adverts all they want; MONEY is not what they need (at least, these ones don't - they are fortunate enough to be residing in an orphanage that recieves adequate funding). What they NEED are human beings who give a damn about THEM, personally. People who know their names and look out for their interests. People who will hug them when they need it, and know how to make them laugh, and what they like to eat, and how they like to be held. Because they don't have parents to do that for them. We, as human beings, have allowed for the creation of a society that has deprived children of the people who ought to care for them. And so, as human beings, we are duty-bound to pick up the slack. These kids are children I KNOW. I can tell you how Musee was so proud the first time she managed to pull herself into a standing position, or how Watchura HATES the feel of soft toys on his skin, or how Geb cut his first tooth last week, or how Paranee LOVES to climb things. And they need more hands and arms and hearts far more than they need more bank notes.

You REALLY want to help the orphans of this world? Try giving your time instead of your money.

i was adoped from china whan i was little and want back to the orfanage this summer the babbies are so cute i fee so bad for them thought they just gat abandoned i hope all the babbies you met get adoped into good familes
