NOIRLISTED #3: "Cape Fear" (1962) review. A horror/ late-noir thriller where lawyer (Gregory Peck) and his family is stalked by a sex offender (Robert Mitchum) he once helped put in jail.

  • Just saw the movie. Horror? I would never watch a horror movie, they are violent and scary. Cape fear is more... pschological suspense. If there is any horror it is that it is not a fantasy like Friday the 13. With Cape Fear you can feal it happening to you and your family. You can feal the fear of Gregory Peck's family. And the ending is not what I could of expected. I laughed at the ending. Cape fear is one of the best movies I've watched. I look forward to watching it again.

  • Cape Fear is a brilliant film - far more effective in it's subtlety and suggestion than films (especially modern films) that presents its violence in a graphic nature. Robert Mitchum gives one of his finest performances in this film!

I thought the remake was crap though - it really played low to Scorsese's trademarks, De Niro is unintentionally funny, and the film has really awful characterization and character development.

  • Great Review. I had to write a paper on film noir and this helped.
