Farhang Foundation Iranian Studies at USC Kickoff Reception

Farhang Foundation hosted a wonderful reception in celebration of the newly launched Iranian Studies Initiative at USC. Thanks to the initiative's many generous supporters, Persian language classes will be offered at USC as of Fall 2011. This memorable night at USC was Farhang Foundation's way of honoring all of the donors and supporters, including the many welcoming administrators and faculty at USC, whose combined efforts helped make this first phase of the initiative possible. But there was a secondary purpose to the evening, which aimed to highlight the next phase of this effort - the launch of an Iranian Studies Minor program at USC. While the reception offered a social environment for attendees to casually mingle with one another, it also featured several prominent keynote speakers, including: * Councilwoman Jan Perry - Ninth Council District / USC Alumni * Professor Paul R. Frommer - Professor Emeritus of Clinical Management Communication at USC's Marshall School of Business / Developer of the Na'vi language for James Cameron's film Avatar * Professor Bruce Zuckerman - Myron and Marian Casden Director and Professor of Religion and Linguistics / Director, Casden Institute for the Study of the Jewish Role in American Life * Professor Kevin Van Bladel - Associate Professor of Classics - USC's College of Letters, Arts and Sciences

One of the many highlights of the evening was when Dr. Frommer fondly recalled the time he spent in Iran during the 1970s. He then went on to share his excitement at the prospect of a thriving Iranian Studies Initiative at USC. Like Dr. Frommer, we at Farhang Foundation are just as delighted by this thought.
