Happy New Year!! :)

~~~~~~~
The thing about Rachel interrupting my homework is that I lost all concentration and focus. All I could think about was the conversation Rachel had with my parents. I knew it wasn't going to be the best conversation, but I didn't think it was going to be that bad. It wasn't like I had the best relationship with my parents to begin with, but they were making it harder and harder to start over and get past everything that happened. If they weren't willing to make an effort than why should Rachel or I? It was going to be even harder to go home this summer or even for winter break. At this moment I was really glad my parents didn't call all that often when I was at school. They were too busy getting drunk to worry about their daughter. Now I was just getting depressed. Why couldn't my parents be more normal? I needed to talk to someone and I could only think of one person that I wanted to talk to.
"Hey, what's up?" Joe asked answering the phone.
"I just wanted to talk, I couldn't focus on my homework," I replied.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing's wrong," I assured him.
"You don't have to lie to me. I know you're upset about something," Joe informed me.
"You can tell?" I asked. I didn't think it was that obvious that I was upset about Rachel's conversation with my parents.
"I know you. You're my girlfriend, it's my job to know when you're upset. You're crazy if you think I'm not going to be able to tell when something's bothering you. Tell me what's wrong," Joe said.
"It's actually kind of nice that I can't hide that fact from you," I replied.
"That's part of the point of being in a relationship. You can tell me anything. Now stop avoiding the topic and tell me what's going on," Joe said forcing me to face the reason why I initially called him. I laughed.
"Okay, Rachel called me," I replied.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Joe asked confused.
"Well, it would be, but she talked to my parents," I told him.
"I take it it didn't go so well," he guessed.
"That would be an understatement," I responded.
"So what happened?" Joe asked.
"They were really rude and mean to Rachel and I thought they felt bad about what they did, but I'm not so sure anymore. When they found out that Rachel had Amanda they pretty much hung up on her. I think they expected her to not have the baby. I guess I thought that they would at least try to make amends with Rachel, but I guess I was wrong," I explained.
"These things take time. It won't be fixed in one phone call," Joe reminded me.
"I know, it's just so frustrating. For once I'm kind of glad they get drunk at night and don't have the capacity to call me. I don't want to talk to them," I replied.
"You are really happy that your parents are alcoholics and drunks?" Joe asked surprised.
"No, not really. Just at this moment because if they weren't they would probably call me and I can't deal with that, but for the most part I hate it. They're always too drunk to care about me; it sucks," I commented as I could feel the tears starting to form in my eyes. And surprisingly I didn't care if Joe knew.
"I wish I could be there for you," he replied.
"I wish you were here too," I agreed as the tears started to flow.
"Don't worry I'll come down this weekend and we can talk about everything," Joe assured me.
"Thanks," I replied grateful for Joe.
"Just 3 more days," Joe added before we hung up
