1. Education is Key
a) Pay attention is school
b) Be known for reputable acts & achievements not how cute you are or clothes you wear
2. Use your Teachers & Other adults as Allies
3. Not going 2b Young forever what you put in today affects you 2morro
a) Eat Well
b) Sleep Well
c) Speak Well -Grammar/Vocab/Diction
d) Exercise
e) Save your money

4. Life is abt Connections: Go to a GOOD Highschool and an even BETTER College
5. Extra Curricular activities - Student Govt, Debate Team, Toast Masters etc
6. Stay Fit & Healthy Sports, Track, golf, swimming, fencing etc
7. NO PREGNANCIES NO STD'S!!
8. Think MONEY & Work backwards from the career you want
9. Get a Mentor a REAL LIFE MENTOR:
a) Call an adult in the field you want to enter
b) Friend's parent or counselor
c) www.Score.org

10. Volunteer & GIVE BACK!

Addendum- Have a legal hustle on the side. Stay recession proof

You talked about burdens...credit card debt has been the biggest burden in my life. I made stupid mistakes in my 20's and have spent the whole of my 30's paying for them. The debt has dictated what jobs I take, where I live, how I spend my free time. Beware, young people of getting into debt. It's a killer and drains you. On the upside I will be free in 2 years but what a waste of a whole decade of my life!

Everyone wants to get out of tthe "ghetto" the best way out of the ghetto is to change yourself and clean the neighborhood up. Instead people want to "get out" and turn other neighborhoods into ghettos.

How about individuals who leave the ghetto as teenagers for what ever reason. But choose to return not for change but to contribute to the problems. I think it's really about getting out of the "ghetto mindset". Changing the way you look at life and how you handle situations.

I grew up in inner city Youngstown, OH and I can say that the "ghetto" is a only mindset. It's a shackle on your mind that makes advancement difficult. If you want to "get out of the ghetto", change your mindset and everything else will fall into place. It is possible to leave the ghetto and still have that entrapped mindset.
