Ewaste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world, with over 50 million tons of waste from computers, printers and cellphones being dumped, mostly in Africa. See what a small group of innovative ewaste activists from the Ewaste Alliance and EWASA are doing in Cape Town, South Africa. Ewaste jewelry, anyone?

  • Philanthropy and sound environmental practice should be a mandate but the highest priority should be financial incentive here. You want to industry on board - MAKE MONEY! !! ! ! !

  • The workers should be wearing protective eyeglasses.

Are their social benefits being respected and paid?

So futile end. A lot of nature resources spent to build semi jewelry.

  • The workers should be wearing protective eyeglasses.

  • No, that's where ewaste is coming from.

  • The lead should be recycled by machines and made into ammunition.

  • This is actually a good story about positive outcomes of ewaste, including fair trade exports. This can actually create great jobs for people overseas if it is done in a fair trade manner.

  • Unfortunately, e-waste also illegally goes to India, Taiwan, and China

  • Most of this e-waste is exported from the developed world, illegally and disguised as 2nd hand equipment to be resold.
