PART 1. Played by Rudolf Serkin (piano) and the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. Written in 1885/6 when Strauss was a youthful 21 years old. At the time he confessed to having an 'infatuation with Brahms', as can be seen clearly throughout this work. initially he didn't want to publish a work he considered to have outgrown. It wasn't until 1894 that he finally agreed to publish it. Good thing too, it makes for a very enjoyable 20 minutes!

  • Nice.

  • Richard Georg Strauss (11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949)

  • Both were "cool" in there own ways. But, Richard was a giant. I so love this little piano concerto.

  • this is the cool richard strauss or the other one?

  • thanks a lo for uploading. what a great performance

  • One of the best Burleskes ever from a great musician and pianist not ordinarily known for his natural keyboard virtuosity which he truly achieved the hard way, unlike many, particularly today, who have much more natural facility, but, in general, far less musicality originality.

Check out Argerich's version as well, for a bit different approach.

This isreally a magnificent performance, and it is nice to have this seminal recording of the piece uploaded to YouTube for everybody to enjoy.
