I think many people think most bands do their "best" work at the start. To me, Ray has gained craft over the years. For example, there are wonderful songs on albums like Working Man's Cafe (and others) I just don't believe he could have written when he was 20. Do they all have that raw, super-innovative spark? No. But not many can sustain that over a whole career, and Ray has done a better job than most (regardless of what some critics say) of staying compelling, artistically viable & relevant.

Decades later, I am still enthralled by the British Invasion led by Beatles, Who, Stones, and Kinks. It turned me into such an Anglophile that I spent months in the UK. Became a huge football (soccer) fan. Incorporated so much Britspeak, that some think I'm English (I'm actually Scots-Irish). I guess I'm one suggestible bloke. These groups are losing power and fans but I hope they carry on....
