The irony is he's funnier when he's an old man because then you get into the elderly "Seinfeld" crabby old man routine, which never gets old.

Groucho 'plays' the audience and Cavett. Even in the Dan Rowan piece Groucho will NOT be upstaged. He really wasn't a dirty old man but a flirt. He had an amazing ability to say what others thought and sometimes make it humorous. That is the genius of comedy; To take everyday things and even tragedies and turn it into laughter.
