Clips from the latest DVD "Watercolour Realism - a different approach"
Here Elizabeth Tyler shows how she gladly breaks many of the rules of traditional watercolour painting whilst creating a large seascape. Apart from brushes she works with pens, pencils, ruler pens, colour shapers, sponges and masking fluid etc.
She even uses sandpaper, saucepan scrubbers, razorblades and erasers for corrections. You can see how she still keeps control even when pouring strong colour directly over the paper . See http://www.elizabethtyler.com for DVDs, paintings and prints.

  • thanks for all the positive feedback!

  • someone knows what kind of "thing" she used to put the masking fluid on the paper when she was painting the grass ? answer please

  • @MrBoscarin It's a ruling pen.

  • this is just pure awesome.... :O i was just starting a watercolour project, and thinking how great it would come out, then i saw this, and now i lost all the passion, because it'll never be as good as your painting....... -____-

  • @Greennanable Thank you- but I'm sorry you lost your passion and optimism, that wasn't my intention! I just wanted to share with others some of the inspiration I sometimes have and give a few tips on techniques that can be used and rigid rules that can be broken. Bear in mind that although this videoclip is only 3 mins long the painting actually took 3 weeks to complete. My best advice is to have patience, I have to remind myself of that all the time.
