Water is most satisfying when it quenches a thirst. But when I'm not thirsty nor hot with sweat, water isn't as satisfying as juice or a soda. But only when I thought about why that was did I understand why that was. With that in mind, I decided to stop drinking sodas with my meals... I thought to myself, perhaps my enjoyment of soda would interfere with my enjoyment of the meal, and I was right. Appreciation and insight are qualities birthed from critical thinking. Her psychobabble stinks.
Art is not supposed to be offensive, however this genre is almost in love with offensive art. Art, and the appreciation of aesthetic beauty, requires abstract thinking to appreciate its message, however if that message is not beautiful but instead offensive to basic, rational senses we all have. Pablo Picasso's art is beautiful and certainly takes an abstract view to appreciate its haunting message. But Picasso's art was a reflection of the madness of the age he was in. See the difference?
@actuallyadam You are still not understanding the contradiction of the woman's words. She uses hyperbole which contradicts the message she is attempting to communicate. She uses the word "simple" as an adjective for a subject that is far from simple. That is a contradiction. To contradict one's own words is a sign of un-intelligence. Being an egghead doesn't make you smart, its a sign of arrogance. I know this well because I've studied liberal arts for many years.
@DOHC2L Internet warrior! Your rage is priceless. Haha. The reason I kept my post murky was to avoid starting an internet war by immediately dismissing your thoughts.
By the way, arguing the validity of certain vocabulary is only making your argument softer. What Marina does is performance art. Like it or not. She consistently states that she approaches art by taking big concepts and making them as simple as they can possibly be. Do some reading.
@actuallyadam No maybes, no perhaps, for me its certain. I'm certain that video is nonsense because what she's describing to them is certainly not simple, but that she keeps calling it "simple." That's nonsense to me. And postmodernism is the appropriate term. But 'post' defines a future tense, and modern has a contemporary meaning. So that term contradicts itself according to my deconstruction. I'd rather change it to past-modernism and alter the term's domain.
