I take it they did away with the old electric moving platforms that used to come out to the doors of the trains? I really liked that circular station. It was very unique.

I heard this station is directly under the old one

That is a nice station. Maybe 100 years from now the MTA will have done this to all the stations!
I do love NY!

I miss the old South Ferry station this one is nice and all but I always liked the Trip around the Loop.

@Reders160 they cant have any r-142's.Kawasaki only made those in 2002-2003 and wont make any more

That's a very nice looking subway station.
But there will always be some moron who will mess it up by writing graffiti on the walls or throwing trash into the tracks.
How come South Ferry is one of the few renovated subway stations? You would think MTA would have the money to renovate all the subway stations. I go to Manhattan practically all the time, and this station here is one of the better subway stations.

@Nonniegirl4Ever This station was built around 2005+ and opened in March 2009 to replace the old IRT SF Loop. There are a lot of stations in the Subway system that IS renovated including Elevated structure. The other stations are to be renovated in the future. The MTA is working on stations that need renovation first. Pretty much im not tottally a fan of renovation because history is removed which sucks! Also the NSF station was suppose to have screen doors(Like Airtrain) But that was scrapped.

Hey bud I'm visiting new york for the first time next month. how do i tell which train is uptown and which is downtown? i saw in the train window the sign said Bronx on top and Manhattan in the bottom does that mean it goes up or downtown. Also i noticed the are multiple street entrances/exits to each station how do i tell which one to use? is one for one direction and the other for the trains that go the other way? thanks for the help

@brad255 This isnt the best place to ask but.. If you were in the Bronx, the sign Would Says Manhattan and Brooklyn, that would mean going Downtown, if you are in Queens, then you will see Man/Bklyn, which is goin downtown. If u In Brooklyn, it ill say Bronx/Queens/Manhattan your going towards uptown. If you are in Northern Manhattan, your in Uptown (Toward the bronx), if you are in lower Manhattan then your downtown, toward Brooklyn. Staten Island is mostly like "downtown"

How did they build this so fast? is the old south ferry still there? maybe the train must pass by the old one... I guess ill check it out for myself 1 day.

@Jkw718 It wasn't fast, it started after 2005 to build. The Old loop still exist mainly to relay, allow trains to switch to/from Lex and 7th ave line or store one train there..
