Featuring the recently restored ex-SOU GP30 2594, this is Tennessee Valley Railroad's train #300, the Chickamauga Turn. The train is a six hour excursion starting at TVRM's Grand Junction Depot and goes over the East Chattanooga Belt Railway and Chattooga and Chickamauga Railway's ex-CoG Line to Chickamauga, GA. It features a dining car, ex-SOU 3158, where you can choose to have lunch along the way. On the return trip, the train stops at Wilder Tower in the Chickamauga National Battlefield.

The locomotive is a 2,250 hp diesel-electric locomotive which was in production by the Electro-Motive Division of the General Motors Corporation between 1961 and 1963. Designated the GP30, it was used for fast freight service on the Southern Railway. It has a turbocharged 16 cylinder 567D3 prime mover. The locomotive is actually owned by the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA, but is on lease to TVRM for use on the Hiwassee River Rail Adventure excursions. The locomotive will be transferred there soon for use on the trips this fall.

  • Where is that trestle @ 6:29? Only location I did not recognize

  • @Ranaldo20 That's off a little park trail just before Chickamauga proper. Saw it out of the corner of my eye, thought it was a great little spot. Nice wide shot on the other side.

  • I wonder if there was an Electrical Hookup from the first passenger car to the diesel locomotive for the passengers to be more comfortable during warm weather, like for Air Conditioning if the cars are equipped for Air Conditioning.

  • @Kjr0se No, no head end power here. Each of our closed window cars has a generator and AC and heating units. We also use some open window cars too. TVRM is a year round operation, so this is very nice for the hot Tennessee summers and cold winters.

  • Nice vid! Isn't this engine unable to go to the Hiwassee Train due to CSX refusing to take it for some reason?

  • @TNtrainboy15 Yea, CSX doesn't like trucks that lack rotating end cap roller bearings, even though I'm sure that many of their older locomotives don't have them either.

  • What a beautiful video this is!

  • 2594, is owned by the Southeastern Railway Musem, and leased to the TVRM, it was donated in about the same time frame, so it is very close

  • It looks just like the NCTM's GP30 #2601.
