@Blotto2008 Australia has some of the fairest immigration laws in the world and takes many more genuine refugees than a lot of other countries. While you may not have been convinced I would love you to explain why you thought it was inarticulate and over simplistic.
I'm not sure of the relevance of your reference to the anthem.... And your Anna Coren style segue was top notch. I might add the anthem mentions we have "boundless plains to share" - "from all the lands we come", yet we've had highly questionable immigration laws. There is also a fair chunk of anthem that has been removed from the mainstream.. unpopular maybe.
Your "speech" lacked every aspect of a speech, thoroughly unconvincing, inarticulate, overly-simplistic, and hollow.
good choice of words "politician's republic" heck we all know there are far far too many of those, Australia can be counted as one of the worlds last remaining good and decent countries, I believe (as many others agree) that its because of its political system, a constitutional monarchy, amongst many many other things. If it became a republic it would deminish its decency as well as its national identity. Advance Australia Fair as they say.

Very good point that the Australian constitution was made by Australians, for Australians, voted on by the Australian people.
