One of the greatest operatic voices in history was silenced this week with the death of Luciano Pavarotti. In his honor, 60 Minutes presents this encore profile of the Italian tenor, whom Mike Wallace was lucky enough to interview twice -- once in 1993 and again in 2002. The two sessions create a memorable profile that not only showcases the incredible voice, but reveals the man behind it.

  • he's being so honest and truthful

  • i believe its those types of people who dont spend their time critizising men who are #1- Dead, and #2- Great Performers who might not have anything else to do but watch something and think. SO tell me this my good friend, would you rather die spazzing out in a bed in a hospital, or calmly watching a sun go down into the carribean sea?

  • One of the Greats, Rosalind talks about in in an interview seen on plowrightclips

  • How dare people boo one of the Greatest Tenors of all time " They could never hit a high note like the wonderful Pavarotti. The man is so peaceful and relaxed!!

  • If he didn't get into Opera music, he would have been the biggest mafia-boss in the world.

  • Stupid stupid audience. This crack that happened at La Scala can happen to everybody any time. Even if a small thing such as a drop of phleghm sat on your vocal ord, even if you didn't drink enough and the throat is dry.

It has absolutely nothing to do with being unprepared. He actually recovered immediately at the end of the note and sang excellent further performances.

  • There is no part 2. Full interview can be found here:

  • To know and not to do is not to know.

  • It was humble of him to acknowledge the fact that his performance wasn't perfect, however, that audience is amost the most arrogant bunch of people I think is imaginable, I wonder how many singers lives and careers they've ruined with their lack of respect for the work that the performers has clearly put into their art and their instrument. That is not a singers opera house, in my opinion

  • @Kotlettbengt Yeah. Same thing for Domingo. I thought his speaking voice would sound like his singing voice, but it was much softer and slightly higher in pitch.

  • Te amo Pavarotti . You are the best!
