Both the 3800 and 3400 are great engines. The 3400 has traded a tiny bit of power for some fuel economy (which is why I bought a 3400 when gas was hitting $5...) but 3800 has more modding options availabe (i.e. top swap).
But don't be looking down on the 3400. only 20hp less, still flies. An air filter and an exhaust system will make it just as quick as the 3800, if not as reliable. :P
Oh and btw this guy is trying to be funny and sarcastic about his way of modding.

wow this defenitley is retarded! i like the fact that you could see spray paint residue on certain areas of the engine where it wasn't taped properly. and a 3800 series wipes the floor period, especially when i have an upgraded fuel injector/air intake/and lighter suspension. plus i still have an extra 50-60 lbs of subs and speakers in my car, LOL and ROFL ur a red neck joke, whos only pimpin his hand!!

wow! okay for one my '04 LS 3800 with magnaflow, K&N Air will rock ur azz all day...I have beatin soo many 34's...puzzy shit, and my spoiler is badazz! when u can hang with turbo charged cars u can talk but right now u cant so shut the fuk up. And talk about extra weight, ur not a racer...true racers dont have subs, too much weight. and by the way 3400's with exhaust sound dumb as fuk get a 38 then we'll talk, ur garbage son!

Iv had a impala just like that with police package and it hauls ass sold it for 2500 to my homeboyz lil sis and bought a LS and i aint got leather and i spent a lil money for my paint i dont have the boom the Police package had but LS ride so so so much smoother and better on gas :) and my gas tank is always full u dont want the sexy impala to go dry

suprisingly enough ive beaten 3 different Impala LS's (3800s) all over town stock, and stock for me was about 900 dollers ago ;)
