What a great tribute to your friend. I've always loved that last song. I lost a friend a few years back the same way, taking pictures while flying. I still miss him so much. At least you know you'll be able to fly with Shaun again!
The Super Cubs stall is no more vicious than a Cessna 172 Skyhawk which is a standard trainer.
I have extensive time in both. The Super Cub flies so well that it gives a pilot confidence that he can do just about anything with it.
Shaun was distracted somewhat as he was circling a whale vertabre on the beach and trying to take pictures at the same time. The windy conditions didn't help.
No, he got killed doing a "moose turn." There were high winds that day, which gives a false sense of adequate airspeed when you are close to the ground. (Flying downwind gives a high groundspeed even though your airspeed is quite low.) The Super Cub is renowned for a vicious stall, and Dr. Lunt entered a stall/spin at low altitude. Completely unrecoverable. Unfortunately a fairly common occurrence in Alaska, where Supercubs are used close to the ground much of the time.
How many years ago the incident happened?:(
