'Who do you think you are kidding Mr', from the BBC TV show Dad's Army, dubbed over (I belive, but happy to be corrected) during the 1970 UK general election by the DJ's on RNI. The 'Mr Wilson' in the dub over was the then Labour Party PM. The Labour Party was defeated by the Conservaive Party with Edward Heath becoming PM.
It's a great song so I have added the end of the song to the clip.

Still belting out the beat:

  • I can't tell what they are saying.

  • Who do you think you are kidding Mr Wilson (PM at the time), if you think Free Radios down.

We are the boys who will stop your little game.

We are the boys who will make you think again.

So who do you think you are kidding Mr Wilson, if you think Free Radios down.

Mr Stonehouse (Post Master General) of to town on the A21 and he goes home at 2 am his dirty work is done.

So watch out Mr Wilson you have met your match in us.

If you think you can crush us we afraid you've missed the bus.

    So

  • The line is "Mr Stonehouse starts to jam at 5.21 when he goes home at 2AM his dirty work is done"...but not if you were listening on the FM frequency in Essex!!

  • Thanks for the correction. Copied the Dads Army, version of that perticular line. Tell us more of the Essex version?

  • Radio Mercur the Scandanavian offshore radio ship broadcast on FM in 1958 and the ship stood in for Radio Caroline in 1966 when The Mi Amigo ran aground on Frinton beach. The transmitter has to be converted for AM broadcasting on Caroline.

  • If you were living in East Anglia it was possible to receive RNI on FM 105, the first (and possibly the only) pirate to do this, so therefore no jamming. I still have the printed lyrics somewhere of "Who do you think your kidding" which was handed out to everyone at the London demo. Also lots of the 12,000 or so demonstrators took along portable radios tuned to RNI and I remember hearing the jamming signal echoing around the streets as we marched..happy days!

  • Yes I remember the jamming signal and RNI changing there name to Radio Caroline in the General Election of 1970 The start of some great radio 1970-1974..

  • great memories
