@teemuvs LMAO... you must think everyone has a comm lathe, and youre assuming the average bear knows what a comm is. And your final point can be resolved with a bit of high speed bearing oil. Problem solved - and most people are good to go. Like I said.. this is for cheap, inexpensive motors.

@djmedic2008 actually, you can break in using alcohol. The key is to keep the motor submerged. And turn it off before removing it and let it dry. In fact, full size cars have their brushed motors for their fuel pumps submerged fully in gasoline in the tank.

@grumpygrady I understand the reasoning behind it. I have used this technique many times with closed endbell motors. I also know you can destroy the brushes on a open endbell motor with this technique. It is just a matter of the motor type.

@BlackSunUnlimited not true
any motor that has brushes need to have the brushes run in
this just helps it runin[breakin] faster

dam i use any kind of oil to re lub it

Cool tip man! I want to do that once I get my new Axial Wraith kit and all the components.

Do not do this! The water dipping procedure is normally reserved for closed endbell motors like the Mabuchi RS540SH. The reason being that the closed endbell brushes are a lower copper/graphite mix to lengthen the life of the brush. The open end-bell motors typically (especially in the stock motors) will have a higher copper/graphite content. Which means they wear much faster, since you are in essence prematurely breaking in a motor with this procedure you will kill the brushes.

would you have to brake in a rtr when you buy it or are they all ready broke in ???

@untold44 What about a 540 hsp brushed motor?

@MrMcMiniMidgetMan I have a couple of Team Orion motor, they have computer chips in side on the end bell, and there a more of..
It will rust

@Buckbuck108 It will not rust. if you oil it properly, everything is fine.

I was just thinking might be a good idea to dip this in 90% rubbing alcohol solution after letting most of the water drip out (with engine not running) then oiling the bearings after letting dry. This will prevent corrosion.

@traxxasftw not to discourage you, but I do not suggest that. Alcohol = sparks never equals a good thing

Can you do this with used brushed motors?
MaTtJaNiToR2597 10 months ago
@MaTtJaNiToR2597 Yes you can. in fact - it almost works better with used. It helps get the brushes clean.
