During a recent delegation to Haiti, actor and chair of TransAfrica Danny Glover, along with Let Haiti Live director Melinda Miles and TransAfrica President Nicole Lee. along with Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research Mark Weisbrot and Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Fellow Ify Ike, arrived in the midst of the eviction to try to stop the homeless earthquake survivors from being forcibly removed.
The landowner explains that 19 months after the earthquake, various NGOs have visited the camp, known as Barbancourt 17, but none have offered alternatives or relocation to the IDPs living there. Director of Bri Kouri Nouvèl Gaye, Etant Dupain, attempts to mediate with the landowner while we await the arrival of Haitian human rights lawyer Mario Joseph who will push for a legal process to determine ownership of the land before an eviction can move forward. UN peacekeeping soldiers with MINUSTAH look on and photograph the exchange. For more information: http://brikourinouvelgaye.com, http://lethaitilive.org, http://www.transafrica.org

  • The ppl questioning the land owner on this video are full of sh*t. Yes, it's sad that ppl are getting kicked out with nowhere to go, but that's not he's fault!! These sob-of-a b*tch NGO's has done nothing but make empty promises in order to steal money. Now when ppl are getting evicted, they try to portray land owner as a heartless tyrant when in fact he allowed ppl to stay on his property for 19 months. (Nice f*cking try, @FAIL)The government owes the ppl and that land owner money.

  • the land owner is correct. 19 months been way too long and the NGO, Glover and whoever else just come to show their faces and not do a thing. If any of the people get hurt the owner is responsible. He is losing money while the NGOs, Glover and rest of the vampires make money. I hope the land owner do what he must. 19 months way too long

  • Why don't they help this guy and work with them, instead of criticizes him.

  • There are solar powered houses earthquakes resistant for less than 20K a unit. If one celebrity get one of their rich friends to pledge 100K that will build 5 houses then fund raise from the other super rich. one million give 50 houses. It's a small number and administrative/management cost will be factored in. It's certainly a start !

  • I'm happy he asked Danny Glover why he didn't build any houses for these people. I am so sick of multimillionaire leftist who claim to care about people while living a life of luxury far and away. I respect Sean Penn but Glover needs to put up or shut up.

  • The land owner has been nice enough to let them stay on his land for 19 months. Now suddenly a so called delegation comes from Washington to claim they represent them. Holly cow!!! Where were they for those 19 months??? Land owner has every right to be upset!!!

  • NGO = CORRUPTION AND ROBBERY (THEY ARE ALL THIEVES). I AGREE WITH THE LAND OWNER.

  • Horrible
