The stock Brinkmann firebox grill is not very good in my opinion. It can not hold the smoker at 225F for any length of time. The stock one melted on me. Brinkmann sent me a warranty replacement, but I thought I'd fix the problem.

This should be the grill I used:

  • what kind of remote temp are u using?Mine is crap!

  • I'm using a Weber wireless to put in the meat and I use oven thermometers in the smoker. Just place it beside the meat and you'll see how your heat is. I basically load 18 lbs of charcoal in the fire box, throw on a chimney load of coals on top, put the top vent at half, and the bottom at almost shut, and walk away. Check the temp here and there and adjust bottom vents. Remember if your looking your not cooking. I go by the box temp on the door mostly it should read about 150 as I remember.

  • Good luck to you and your nephew!

  • is that a fireplace grill you used to replace the original?

  • Yes ... its not like a normal one though as the holes are small. Look in the comment section of this video and I have a link to it. Take a hack saw and cut into the extra that gets in the way. A few strokes will do it as the metal will bend and break away. Not much sweat involved :) Let me know if you have anymore questions. It really works well for me.

  • Mine melted as well. The one in the video is the replacement they sent me. I never used it cuz I don't need it anymore. I really think Brinkmann should actually use their products :)

Good luck to ya and thanks for the comment.

  • Now, THAT'S the right answer man!!! Great mod! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Thanks for the vid, you inspired me to mod my p.o.s brinkman. I found a cheaper way is to drill 2 holes in the front of the fire box and 2 holes in the back and put stainless steel 2.5 inch bolts through each hole and secure them with nuts on the inside. The bolts have to be level 3.5 inches from the bottom and about 9-10 inches apart.. ASfter the bolts are tightened place the grid on the bolts.

  • good ol fashioned down to earth tips and suggestions! Good job!!

  • Nice Job...

  • thanks for the tip!

  • that was funny. I agree with you about the crap original parts. They give you trash to start off with, and it's up to you to figure out what you need to do to make it respectable, and to make it really work.

  • "that means i can remove this PIECE OF SHIT!" AWESOME!

  • Where's my manners. Great smoker modification! Kudos.

  • I sure agree w/ whacka - Brinkmann should use their products. Just another corp out for the bucks.

  • cool
