EDIT: If you found this video through a search and/or you haven't been following my ToD2 translation, then I wouldn't bother reading the crap below since most of it won't make any sense. By hey, if you like drama and whining, then be my guest. ^^

Yeah, so this is my answer. You know how I mentioned something about playing ToD DC in hopes that it'd help get my motivation back? Well, this is why I said yes and no. Yes, it did get me interested in Tales again, but at the same time, it made me realize exactly how much I don't like ToD2. No offense ToD2 fans, but in terms of storyline and character development, that game is the pits. And yeah, I know that ToR's story is not award winning material either, but at the very least, it had a very solid battle system. And peach pie. ^^

Anyway, I'm basically going to test a psychological theory here and implement some positive reinforcement. So I'm going to try alternating between a game that I don't like so much and a game that I like and see how things turn out. And since ToD DC is sort of side project and there's already a translation for it floating around, it won't be the end of the world if I end up dropping it or whatever. Yeah, it means that it's going to cut into ToD2 translating time, but right now, this may be the only thing that'll keep me going.

Anyway, I did something a bit unusual for this segment since I actually subbed the song for once, which just happens to be one of the three things that I absolutely detest doing translations of (the other two being Artes and battle quotes). My translation is not very singable, so you'll have to pardon that, but otherwise I *think* it's accurate for the most part. Also, I do realize that this is not a huge deviation from the ToDr wiki (which I did reference like I did with spekio's ToR script), but I'm not sure if it's due to a similarity of translating/editing styles or the script itself being too simplistic at this point. *shrugs* Anyhoo, enjoy.

  • you do know that shimata means shit right?

  • @TheRonin7272

To be more accurate, SHIMATTA can mean shit. It can also mean crap, damn, oops, or anything else along those lines depending on the context. I personally think KUSO and its derivatives are closer Japanese equivalents to shit than SHIMATTA, but that might just be me.

  • How you did this game to? Nice to see you again, lanyn. :D

  • I was always wanting to know what they were saying Lanyn, thanks so much, don't stop.

  • Does This version of ToD work with Swap Magic 3.6?

  • Yeah, I agree. Actually, Leon and Rutee were the only characters I liked, and I absolutely hated rutee's script for some reason or another. I didn't really like the idea of the swordians, but they had a lot of character. More than most of the cast did.

  • (ToD2 spoilers for any random readers)

And that's another element I enjoyed about ToD2... meeting the Swordians in the past. For me, ToD2 built on what was cool about ToD, the thing with the Swordians, Stan's disappearance, even meeting the person that invented the Swordians! The story wasn't amazing, but stuff like that struck me as pretty epic. The Judas/Lion thing too, though painfully obvious... it was really neat to have Lion around again. Back with maturity this time! ;D

  • I'm glad to hear this! I have plenty of trouble finding people on the same wave length as me about ToD2, so well met!

And as for me... I loved it right off the bat. And I agree about ToD's characters, though I did like both Stan and Lion. ToD unfortunately has a gigantic cast of playable characters (or so it feels) and none of them really reached out and grabbed me. The best characters were... the Swordians. xD

  • I hated ToD2 up until I realised it was amazing. I find it had some of the best battle mechanics in the series, and that was really the game's strong point, along with it's rather charming characters, which is something Tales of Destiny lacked. Hard.
