Continuing on with the British flavor of the past few videos, I decided to pull out probably my favorite Elton John song, Grey Seal. (plus I couldn't find a single bass cover of this here on YT)
Elton's bassist Dee Murray was KILLING IT on this one. I'm definitely not playing what he is, his phrasing is far more tasteful than mine, so there's alot of winging it on my part, but it's the perfect bass line for improvisation. The abrupt ending is because I couldn't find a way to fade out the video, so I had to cut it somewhere.

  • I had to come back and check this out again. Unbelievable. Dee Murray would be proud.

  • @JimmyLeeHook

Well then I have to come back and thank you again!! :)

  • Holy cow. What a great bass player you are. Check out my cover of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. Hope you dig it. You're terrific.

  • @JimmyLeeHook

Wow man, thanks! Your "Don't Let The Sun..." cover was far better than my video if you ask me, but still, thanks!

  • Awesome job and absolutely PERFECT bass sound.

  • i like how your hips move

  • @77edster

It certainly sounded like he used a pick but many of the photos I've seen of him showed him using his fingers. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • Lovely stuff

  • @TJH3113 Dee did record quite a lot with a pick in the early 70s, less so late 70s/80s

  • Sounds good

  • Awesome. I had just checked out superduperryane's version and yours was next. I'd always assumed that Dee Murray played with a pick because his parts were so nimble and almost "Squire-like" but you've achieved the sound finger-style.

  • Fantastic Job sir!!!

  • I think you've got it! Very cool.

  • @manfredicomposer GREAT MUSICIAN, NOT GOOD...

  • Dude you a re hitting it out of the park with this. Dee is one of my favorite bass players his tone and phrasing were phenomenal. You are doing his memory justice here. Thanks!
