Romarius 2005 listen to Lisa della Casa
and Anneliese Rotehnberger, this is unmatched, in diction and in singing.
I am sorry< for Mrs Fleming, she speaks so well German, but here once get the impression as the role of Arabella would not be her case. Perhaps she had an bad evening.

I adore Fleming, but she is not singing her best here. I much doubt, however, that her voice is on the slip. She could well do a de los Angeles.
-
Horrible - the layer of tristesse slathered all over the whole thing - the sighing little mews and the inability to just sing a straight line without affectation - she makes me almost physically ill to hear.
-
There is only an age difference-and I do NOT like the younger one's straight tones!
-
I am sorry but I have to disagree with some people...This is terrible. She is cutting the notes short. The best duet ever is Kiri Te Kanawa, and Kathleen Battle. Unmatched!!!!

She is very pretty BUT stop the wimpering for God's sake!!!!!!!!

love the Zdenka...i can't understand fleming's german at all...the vowels are all mixed up. but she sings beautiful as usual, and looks dashing. that blue is a great color for her

Fleming looks great but her voice is beginning to lose some of its celestial luster. The contrast between her and the Zdenka is almost startling - the purity of Kleiter's tone and the Fleming's more opaque timbre. As for the Zurich production, well, it doesn't make much sense but they get points for effort.

This is quite the reason that Renee Fleming is the reigning queen of Strauss. It is simply magnificent. And, for the critics of her 'dark' tone; you're absolutely insane, this music is Strauss, it's not about the bending to the demands of the role; it's about the beauty and grace of the natural voice, and her voice is simply delightful, especially when she just hovers up to the high middle passage, it's effortless. I believe Strauss would be pleased; after all, he did love the soprano voice
She'll never stop exciting me.
every time I hear her it's as if it was the first time...and I'm touched all aver again, Viva la Renee!

How could you end the clip at the start of what is the most ravishing and moving duet in Strauss apart from Rosenkavalier? It's like coitus interruptus!!!!
And if Ms Fleming is the reigning queen of Strauss, that isn't saying much for the level of Strauss that's out there. Sad times indeed.
