i could never understand why everyone disses the genesis port. to me it's the only particularly good version. i love the visual style; the characters look way less ugly than they do in the arcade version. the genesis port is also the only one that has sound i can actually enjoy listening to.

@r2gkb83z u sad pathetic little person this guy does this FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT! u clearly came here for some childhood memories so show some fking appreciation u wanker. I remember LoLing so hard, cos i was young and never heard the saying ape shit, and my uncle said 'wats this game' read the top of the cartridge and said Toki goes ape shit, ofc as a young lad I laughed hard and died on the game :), see video games can be educational

@OpticalFascism I don't think it's a complete dud, the camera is better resulting in less frustration and later levels are pretty fun but I agree that the arcade game was better overall. It's a shame they didn't make an arcade accurate version when the MD was capable.

Love the track, but can see how it would make one go insane after a while :)
On a sidenote - compared to the arcade and amiga version this seems so insanely random whats going on in the levels. As if they took elements from the different levels and put them together.

The Megadrive should have done a much better version. What happened to the lush backgrounds?

yeah this is pathetic

the second stage reminds me of that rock stage from shinobi 3.the only difference is that your going up instead of down

This is probably the hardest game I finished back when I was a kid. I had to face my inmost fears, always freaked out at the Submarine Boss, this game was damn scary to me and tough as nails.

Oh my I used to play the hell out of this game when I was a kid. Oddly enough, considering how much time I used to play this I only managed to actually beat it only once or twice. Propably 'cause of my mother, she didn't wan't to see me using my time on stupid games :-)
...and as I remembered the music is still awesome! Top notch!

@cubex55 dont worry. r2gkb83z is just a pathetic child jealous of your skill. I doubt he can even and the controller without accidentally choking himself with the wire. Keep it up! awesome longplay!
Up A Right B Down C Left Start. A sequence you clearly know very well. I happen to own this version of Toki. There is nothing wrong with the hit detection. You are cheating.

No, I never used any cheats. Firstly I did die many times but I cut them out explaining the lives randomly going down on levels, secondly you have to do that on the title screen which you would be able to see.

This version is indeed not really great. I don't like Toki's (or rather Juju's) look. The stages were stretched, but with really bad and boring level design. Graphic tiles and sprites were added or changed and don't fit the design of the original game at all. The colour palette is too dark and dull. Some enemy battles are too repetitive and annoying, like the stone spikes that pop up every few steps. The original game was short, but at least varied.
Why the pause at 24:19?
