Pursuit in Dothan Leads to Suspect Exchanging Gun Fire with Offi.wmv

A person has shot them self on Ross Clark Circle in front of IHOP. The person was involved in a hit and run. The suspect was encountered on West Main in front of Byrd Funeral Home. A chase then took place. The suspect vehicle is reported to have held a gun outside the vehicle.



The subject went north on Ross Clark Circle. Between IHOP and Hooter's the suspect vehicle was pitted




by Houston County Sheriff Department. Then gunfire erupted from the suspect and law enforcement returned fire. The suspect is outside the vehicle on the ground. Dothan Fire has been dispatched to the scene.

No officer is reported injured.

The suspect has been loaded into CARE Ambulance and leaving the scene en route to a Dothan hospital, emergency.

A Houston County Sheriff Deputy has been injured. We are not sure how the deputy was injured. We do know it was the deputy that pit the suspect vehicle.

We have mixed information on the suspect. We do know he was in some type of uniform. We have mixed information it being a law enforcement uniform or it being a military uniform.

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Lt. James Ivey is on the scene. Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and Chief Deputy Donald Valenza are on the scene. Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton and Major Steve Parrish are on the scene.

A Alabama State Trooper was the primary vehicle that pulled the suspect vehicle over in front of Byrd Funeral Home. The chase involved the Trooper, Police and Sheriff Deputies.

Agents from Alabama Bureau of Investigation are on the scene.

The injured deputy is reported to be injured from the accident and not the shooting. The deputy pitted the suspect vehicle to end the chase and make sure no civilians were injured.

The Ross Clark Circle is closed, all lanes of the circle, from Choctaw Street to pass Sam's Club.

According to Sheriff Hughes; when the Deputy used the "Pitt" maneuver to stop the vehicle both the driver's doors came to rest next to each other, at that point the suspect came out of the vehicle with a pistol and shots were fired. Both Dothan Police and Sheriff Deputies returned fire striking the suspect several times in the torso. Sheriff Hughes has also confirmed that the deputy received non- life threatening injuries, however the suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident is under investigation by ABI. Sheriff Hughes said there will be a joint press conference sometime on Tuesday.

This all started when the suspect vehicle traveling east bound in the westbound lane of west main hit another vehicle and then fled the scene. Reports are the occupants of the other vehicle did not receive any life threatening injures.

I didn't see jason point the weapon at anyone...there was no exchange of fire...he climbed out of his truck got on top, then onto the cop car, looks down, then raised the gun to his own head, and at the point his gun reached his head they opened fire.....if he wanted to hurt the cop he couldve done it when they were side by side after the pit manuver....

@somewhereupthere Not in my opinion but you know how these guberment thugs are, nowdays they kill first and might ask questions later. If the whole interview is misleading or an out right lie it really doesn't surprise me. I hope you got some video of it so we can see what really happened.

Ya know, I've been thinking, we need to come up with another name for todays cops, to call them police officers, law enforcement or cops is a shameful disgrace to retired police officers, we need them back.
