USSR backed the government and fought dispersed militants (not even citizents but mainly gangs coming from abroad, through U.S-backed Pakistan).
USA attacked government and the citizens of Vietnam. Feel the difference?

BOTH were criminal invasions, USSR in Afghanistan and USA in Vietnam!
BOTH Vietnam & Afghanistan were mere pawns in Cold War games, as were other unfortunate 'smaller'/weaker nations!
It is only fitting that BOTH invaders were soundly defeated!
Those who were severly brainwashed by propaganda will continue to defend the criminal invasions, and so is likely to do the same failure all over again.

If someone invaded your home UNPROVOKED & murder some of your family members, would you consider the home invaders to be 'protecting' your people?
It is stupid, propaganda and A LIE to claim that USSR 'protected' the Afghans by invading & mass slaughtering the people!
USSR was 'protecting' Afghans in the same way that US was 'protecting' Vietnamese by mass slaughtering the Vietnamese people.
Its ALL propaganda of from armchair warriors, who enjoy playing war games with human victims.

USSR fought against mujaheddins, who mostly came from abroad to Afghanistan, sponsored by US.
Even Brzezinski said that CIA backed the militants: "We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would...That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Soviets into the Afghan trap...." (Interview to Le Nouvel Observateur 1998-01-21).
USSR did protect the people of Afghanistan and its government from terror.

BOTH US and USSR were TWIN EVILS tormenting the planet.
The invasions of BOTH Vietnam and of Afghanistan were CRIMINAL acts against those people.
You make the Russians seem like ignoramus, if they would allow your Najibullah to seduce them into committing criminal acts against INNOCENT Afghans, who did nothing to Russian people.

US stepped into Vietnam after UN SC resolution, it was actually legal action, while USSR abstained from voting that time (it was a diplomatic mistake). What was wrong from any view point is to use napalm and other WMO. For that, american war criminals should face trial.
USSR never used these kinds of weapons in Afghan, USSR was protecting the interests of Afghan President Najibullah (u still do not believe?). USSR built roads, schools, hospitals, other facilities. it was US to bring chaos.

The historical fact was that the evil empire of the soviets was as expansionists as the evil empire of the americans!
They were BOTH twin evils tormenting the planet and FORCING conflicts on other nations; such as Vietnam and Afghanistan, etc.
The Russians WERE DESTRUCTIVE in Afghanistan; because that is what armies do -- DESTROY
