No brother, The blind man came to the Prophet (May peace & blessings of God be upon him) when he was ALIVE (seeing\hearing him & knowing his request) in order to make dua to him. Just like when we ask our mothers to make dua to us in our daily lives... But indeed, Dua of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) is blessed.

Does anybody's spirit die after physical death? What about punishment in the grave for wrongdoers?

You would agree that they are not 'ALIVE' in the sense we are 'ALIVE'. So clearly how we deal with them, if at all, is not going to be how we deal with the physical living.

Also, even if they are 'ALIVE', how does this ayah justifiy seeking untercession through them.

Perhaps the Arabic meaning is crucial. Clearly everyone agrees the 'ALIVE' does not apply in the same way to both those on earth and those in the grave.

Tawassul to rasullullah after his life is kuffar?? Have u not read the verse frm the Quran which Allah said," don't u EVER have the thinking that those who DIED in the course of Allah is DEAD,they are ALIVE and WE are their sustenance."

please treat da'ees as da'ees and scholars as scholars. The da'ees of islam have provided extreme benefit to the ummah, but their rulings are not heavier than the rulings of ulema. The rulings of the ulema of ahle sunnah wal jamaah for the past 1400 years has been that tawassul through the Messenger of Allah s.a.w.s is allowed. as for the hadeeth of the blind man, the blind man was told to go to his house and perform this dua in a place where the Messenger of Allah s.a.w.s. would not be present.
