I like to imagine dear old dad listening to this while serving in the South Pacific in WWII on a PT boat. He always like the instrumentals. I wonder if it somehow got airplay on armed forces radio out thataway?

It's an incredible recording. Very balanced and dynamic. And obviously it was a benchmark for recording technique at that time.

before i heard xavier cugat's version,i was familiar with the disco/dance version by the ritchie family in 1975(who took their version to #11pop).it wasn't until 1983 when i found the 45 with this on it.i like this one too.and his version was the biggest hit of all the versions came out(#2pop in 1943).
