MOVIE & tv OPENING TITLES - THE MODERNS (the intersection of art & passion).

THE MODERNS (1988) is one of my favourite movies, set in one of my favourite periods: Paris during the 1920s when so many expatriate Americans (and Canadians) lived in Paris (eg: HEMINGWAY, FITZGERALD, STEIN, et al.).

Keith CARRADINE leads a stellar cast portraying writers, painters & forgers, collectors, columnists, industrialists, philanderers and all-around drunks. The score and musical adaptations by Mark ISHAM add to the retro atmosphere.

This is one of my favorite movies. The soundtrack is fantastic. I have the film poster hanging in my apartment in pride of place. I could never figure out why more people don't know this film.

I love it so much and it does get better on repeated views, unlike many movies.

It's one of those 'lost' movies for sure.

I watch this movie over and over, love it. My favorite scene is the one in the cafe where Oiseau is planning his death, and Hemingway is discussing them using names from his book, and Nick is all "He doesn't own me!"
