The great Enrico Caruso sings "L'Addio a Napoli" ("Farewell to Naples"). Victrola Red Seal 87312. This is one of several single-sided 78rpm records that I saved from the garbage earlier this summer.
The audio and the video were recorded separately, then synced together as best as I could. This was to ensure the best possible sound quality of these videos. No mixing or editing was done to the raw sound files. All pops, clicks and surface noise of the shellac are as they appear on the record, and honestly, I'm surprised a recording of this age still sounds so good.
A clear close-up of the labels for my Caruso uploads can be found at http://pics.livejournal.com/punktiger/gallery/00057xzx
@31operafan I wasn't the one throwing them out. It was a neighbour two houses down from me. I guess they were cleaning out the attic. I saw a few boxes loaded with old 78s out on the curb last summer. I went through all the old albums there and cherry-picked the good records.
I knew he was an iconic opera singer beforehand, but, frankly, I had never heard a Caruso recording before I found those records. Now, I understand his deserved reputation.

Oh, it's a good thing you didn't throw it in the trash! :) This does sound good for its age. I'm glad you like Caruso. I do, too. He has one of the best voices I've heard from any opera singer.

@transformingArt
I have two other Caruso songs uploaded today, "Ai Nostri Monti" (with Louise Homer -- which you've already seen) and "Campane a Sera". Those are the only Caruso records I have in my collection.

Thanks for posting this. Do you have any other Caruso records? If you have, hope you can post some of them.
