    Yes, unfortunately the mouth has 300-400 different types of bacteria inside various parts of the mouth. Normally, the body is very good at containing and controlling the invasion and multiplication of bacteria. Infection occurs when the body is not able to resist or the bacteria are very capable of causing disease. We use antibiotics when we place implants to help improve our chances to avoid infection. However, even with antibiotics the implant can still get infected. This does not happen often

    Can implants become infected? At any point, during or after the procedure?
