My ancestors came from Scotland, and I very much enjoy learning about the history of their homeland. I find it ironic that history often repeats itself. Here in the Carolinas, a small but important battle was fought during the Revolutionary War by Scottsmen (or as we're called in the Southern States, Scotts-Irish), both against and loyal to Britain. If you're interested watch Decisive Battles: Kings Mountain. Thank you for posting this series.
@CoolCollectableToys Agreed. The proud and noble people of Britain should not honor the war crimes that occurred after the 45. Nor should the US people condone the war crimes that were committed in Iraq. I won't.I want to see war trials, I want to see all of the people that lied us into that atrocity in jail, for the rest of their natural lives. Hey, Eric Holder, are you listening? Dope and on line poker are not that big a deal to me! Do "YOUR JOB". It's what we pay you for.
I'm sorry, even 265 yrs later some of us including myself will never forgive the British/ Hanoverian Army that carried out the Genocide and ethnic cleansing that took place here in my home town of Inverness and accross the Highlands...even though I get on with most people I meet no matter their creed, colour or wherever their from. But it is about time The state/Monarchy apologised for the war crimes comitted in their name. The Duke of Sutherland's statue on Ben Bhraggie should be taken down.
@checkpointscotland very true..being a Highlander myself and very patriotic especially to the Highlands I often wonder that same question though my bias would say the Lowlanders with Hanoverian British Army were the rebels...but then the religion of Charles may have stopped alot of people that would possibly have joined the Jacobites even though most were Episcopalian.
the thing that haunts me, is that Scots were ordered to slaughter their own people, & not just stop at that...but go to peoples homes & kill families....they then stopped all Scots playing the bagpipes & wearing kilts....just who were the rebels here???
...So many of us, across one ocean or sea or another, carry blood that walked in those places. This story with other intense story coming with other blood we carry, adds depth and breath to the story of our shared Life.
...One way or the other, pushed up the creek and over the hill so hard that many of our blood perished along the way, so hard that we lost many of our stories, we got to here and now.
...With all of that, many families have lost this story's retelling.
Ty for posting this series.Culloden has to be one of the most horrying battles ever fought. As with the Battle of Franklin (TN,civil War) they don't get the attention they deserve.
