THE CHRIS BRIEN DRUMMING DAY HONG KONG 21ST NOV 2010
Recorded 21st November 2010, Hong Kong @ Outside The Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Most of the tune is in 7/8. However some sections are in 4/4 and a few bars are in 5/8 & 3/8
.
The verse groove is based on a "Hybrid" 7/8 Songo pattern.
The solo sections groove is based on the following:
THE FEET: are playing a Samba type pattern between the two bass drum pedals and two hi-hats.
This is not a Samba it is a hyrid Samba groove.
THE HANDS:
Right Hand is playing an Afro-Cuban Cowbell Pattern called "The Palitos".
I am playing the Palitos Pattern between the main cowbells and 1st floor tom and 2nd tom, while soloing against this pattern with my left hand on other parts of the kit.
While doing this I am constantly thinking in a melodic way not in a "Chops way". For myself, Rhythm and Melody is far more important than a display of chops, but a display of chops is wonderful in moderation :)
Which is what my solo is about. That is, taking 7/8 to the "Outer Limits".
Thank you for listening. Please comment and rate.
All the best,
Chris Brien "Happy Drumming"

sounds like there is a delay between your playing and the playback..
