In regards to "Lovin' You" and those glass-breaking notes, Maya was actually in the studio with her mama when this song was recorded. Toward the end, you can actually hear Minnie singing "Maya, Maya, Maya..."

Aww, it is heartbreaking when Maya talks about when her child asks "where is grandma Minnie?" Aww...it's sad that she will never get to meet her grandma...but she will at least know the type of person that she was.

It would never occur to me at first that Maya is bi-racial. Now that I know who here parents are, I'm saying to myself, "Ahhh...that makes sense." She has her fathers physical features (her looks basically) and her mothers hereditary traits as evidenced in her hair, eye color and in her skin tone, moderately. At any rate, she is gorgeous. I just found this out tonight. I nearly cried.
I was always stunned by Maya Rudolph's voice on SNL. It really sticks out. I had no idea that her mother was Minnie Riperton. Now that I know, it seems so obvious.
Maya is her own talent though & her voice is unique. I wish she would do more with it - especially knowing this.
